How Disney World left the middle class behind. Fantasyland, indeed

“If Walt (Disney) were alive today, he would probably be uncomfortable with the prices they’re charging right now,” said Scott Smith, an assistant professor of hospitality at the University of South Carolina whose first job was as a cast member in Disney’s Haunted Mansion. “They’ve priced middle-class families out.

” And what else do They expect Disney to do?  There’s a limit to the number of people who can fit in a park.  This is supply and demand at its most basic level.  Are they supposed to go to a reservation system where you book your trip years in advance?  Then have a standby system where people show up the night before to get an early spot in line?  How would that be fair to anyone?  Especially Disney.  If they’ve got a product and people are willing to buy the product, they can charge whatever the market will bear.  They’re not selling medicine.  They’re not selling basic utilities.  They’re selling entertainment.  Despite what your 8 years old might say, nobody ever died because they couldn’t go to Disney World. (NYSE: DIS)

They charge what people are willing to pay.  When the number of people willing to pay the price gets close to capacity, they raise the price again.  Rinse, repeat.

Alienated – I was there in the 70’s while they were building Epcot. My folks listened to a six hour thing about buying real estate in Lehigh Acres. They did, I already have had to have a boat removed from it, and meh.
We had fun, but my adoptive mom was in her 50’s and easily confused ( early onset dementia ) .

So we missed our bus back to New Port Richey.
But I remember having fun, and we were dirt poor. We just did rides that were covered by the passes. Somehow, we caught a car rental to an airport shuttle that had a shuttle to npr.
we did make it home that night. I wasnt worried at the time.
At todays prices- they are no longer doing things like that. And it is a shame that it has come to this but capitalism ! Hint- it is fine to make money. It is fun. But, how much do you need ? Do you always need to make 5 % more a quarter than the previous one ? Why not fix on a goal and start that trickle down
