“We’re expecting the Windows 10 launch to go relatively well, though many users will opt for a free OS (operating system) upgrade rather than buying a new PC,” Loren Loverde, vice president of the worldwide PC trackers and forecasting division at IDC. “Competition from 2-in-1 devices and phones remains an issue, but the economic environment has had a larger impact lately, and that should stabilize or improve going forward.
” Apple launched a new Macbook earlier this year which it dubbed the “thinnest, lightest and most beautiful” notebook it has ever made. I read this headline on my iPad. (NASDAQ: MSFT)More like “already have a perfectly good PC, don’t need a new gadget”. My home desktop PC is about eight years old- I’ve added memory, a SSD and replaced the video card over the years. It will get upgraded to 10 in a few months once .1 gets released. I see no reason why I can’t keep using it for quite a few years more- it handles pretty much anything I throw at it, including games.
The now four year old iPad I have at work might as well be a doormat though. haven’t done an iOS upgrade in years since everyone I know who did it regrets it now. Of course, it wasn’t all that useful to start.
So Apple sales are up 16% and Lenovo sales are down 7.5%, yet they still sell almost 3 times as many units as Apple.
Yeah, Apple is kicking their a$$… Of course I bet Apple probably has a much higher profit margin.
Asus alone sells something like 20 million discrete (not to manufacturers) motherboards per year. Add in the other vendors like Gigabyte, and you’re looking at a good 10% of the desktop PC market…
